Journey to the Sun 2017 Motorcycle Trip

Day 2 - Sunday July 30, 2017 - Bryan, OH to Coralville, IA (Iowa City) Distance:  671km,  Time: 10:00hrs, hotter than yesterday Sunny Hot 29c - 20c Overnight: Quality Inn,  209 W. 9th St., Coralville, IA (****), clean and new Started out at 6:45 to get to the Amtrak station for Train 49, the Lakeshore Ltd, it is due at 7:08, but it was late and arrived at 7:50, but there was a bonus as there were 3 Eastbound Doble Stack trains, and Amtrak Tr#29 the Capitol Ltd, came in advance of the Lakeshore Ltd. There is a bronze plaque at the station to the NYC high speed land record set in 1966. NS Stack Train E/B at Bryan, OH at 7am

Day 1 - Saturday July 29, 2017 - Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON to Bryan, OH Distance:  688km,  Time: 10:00hrs, made for a long day Sunny and Hot, 27c - 20c Overnight: Colonial Manor Motel, Bryan, OH (****), getting a bit worm An uneventful day travelling along the Interstate Highways from New York State to Ohio, passing through Pennsylvania on the way.  Temperatures were reasonable for riding from about 23c to 28c, but very little humidity and at times there was a cool breeze, maybe off of Lake Erie to the North. Got off the I-80/I-90 around Toledo and came into town on the local roads, like US#6, lots of flat land and corn. No photo day (there is a photo of the hotel below), surprising, have done this same route in 2009, 2010 and stayed at the same motel in Bryan, OH.  You ask why here, well it is on the mainline of the old New York Central RR, and it was on this section of track back in the late 1960's that NYC set the fastest train in the US with an R...

Journey to the Sun 2017 Motorcycle Trip Trip Synopsis This is a 21 day trip from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario westward to Montana and Glacier National Park – the highlight being travelling on the Going to the Sun Road – that is why the name for this excursion “Journey to the Sun”.  The trip will visit 10 states and 5 provinces. The planning for this trip started in February of 2017and the final design took well over 40 days to complete and book the required accommodations and calculations to avoid gravel roads in Saskatchewan, which is not that easy.
