Day 14 - August 11, 2017 - Cranbrook, BC to Waterton Lakes National Park, AB

Day 14 - Friday, August 11, 2017 - Cranbrook, BC to Waterton Lakes National Park, AB
Distance: 288km,  Time: 6:30hrs
Sunny, Hot 30c to 22c
Overnight: Bear Mountain Motel, 208 Mountain View Road, Waterton, AB  (***)
Good overall accommodations, room is a bit small, no AM breakfast but the price was right.

Got an early start this morning with the good intention of mailing back home a collection of maps and brochures that I will not need and some t-shirts etc. Big mistake was going into the local Staples store in Cranbrook and walked out after 30 minutes of the incompetent clerk trying to send my box back to Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Took the box downtown to Canada Post and it was shipped within 3 minutes of my arrival.  So after that exasperation experience I wanted to be out of Cranbrook in the worst way.

I will be following BC Hwy#3 or what I call the Southern Trans Canada, as it is South of the Trans Canada Highway and travels through lesser know towns etc., but a very good road and it follows the CP Rail Southern mainline to Medicine Hat, AB.

About 30 minutes East of Cranbrook I catch up to a CP/UP empty oil train heading East, so the chase is on, these trains typically are only going about 60kmh so it is an easy chase.

Catch up to the train again at Crownest Pass on the Alberta BC boundary.  After a brief stop at Frank Slide site link to Frank Slide, it is off to Waterton Lakes, which will end the day around  4pm, time for some exploring the town site and making diner arrangements at the famous Prince of Whales Hotel on the top of the cliff.
